The Backstory: An Intro to the Brand
Perfume has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember; I’ve always been fascinated by the history and prcess of the industry. I've visited gardens and perfumeries around the world, and it was on a trip to Capri and the South of France where this particular dream really began. As a child I was wildly infatuated with stories of magic and mystery -- and I do believe perfume is as close to that world as we can get to today.
I’ve spent the last 2 years working on this line, and while there have been many setbacks along the way, it's been a labor of love. I’ve been working in the fashion and beauty world for the last 5 years as a photographer/videographer/digital creative, but this is the first time I’ve created a product entirely from scratch and brought it to market. And I'm so excited to finally get to share it with you.
After working in digital for over a decade, I wanted to create something tangible. Something that isn’t at the mercy of an Internet connection. This also was part of the decision to create an all-natural line: if it smells like lavender, it is lavender. No hocus pocus. I fell in love with the process of finding and experimenting with ingredients. I love how rose oil smells completely different depending on where it was sourced or how it was processed -- it's all part of the creative journey.
Petite Histoire is a French phrase meaning “the backstory between lovers” — it’s that bit of electricity between two people, the gravity that keeps them orbiting each other. When I was in the early stages of creating the brand I was talking with someone and she said love potions are always popular, and the idea sort of clicked. It brought me back to the world of magic from my childhood, but I wanted to create something different -- these aren't about becoming someone else, they're about experiencing different aspects of your own personality.
The main collection has 12 scents, and each tells a different story. The first 5 are inspired by particular places, and then the collection sort of branches out from there. There are so many things in the works right now, but the first scent is an indication of the direction I’m looking to go. There's a touch of nostalgia, a sense of wanderlust, and at the end of the day, each perfume is a study and story of different ingredients, all naturally beautiful.
Hollywoodland is the first scent in the collection, and I hope you love getting to know the story as much as I loved creating it.
